Dynamic modeling of the motions of variable-shape wave energy converters

In the recently introduced Variable-Shape heaving wave energy converters, buoy changes its shape actively in response to changing incident waves. this study, a Lagrangian approach for dynamic modeling of spherical Wave Energy Converter is described. The classical bending theory used write stress–strain equations flexible body using Love’s approximation. elastic shell assumed have an axisymmetric vibrational behavior. Rayleigh–Ritz discretization method adopted find approximate solution vibration model shell. A novel equation motion presented that serves as substitute Cummins buoys. Also, hydrodynamic coefficients account mode shapes are proposed. developed coupled with open-source boundary element software NEMOH. Two-way and one-way Fluid–Structure Interaction simulations performed MATLAB study effect converter on trajectory power production. Finally, variable was able harvest more all tested conditions.
